Bunk Beds for Kids

Bunks beds have been a very popular piece of furniture for many years. It is quite versatile and can save a lot of room esp. in small cramp bedrooms. A bunk bed is a type of bed in which one bed is stacked on top of another. They are typically used as furnishings in children’s rooms, allowing two children to sleep in the same room while maximizing available floor space. They normally are supported by four poles at each corner of the bed. To get to the second bunk a ladder is used, though taller children often find other faster methods of climbing into them. The top bed normally is surrounded by a railing to prevent the sleeper from falling out.

They are great space savers, but also they can be dangerous as well if kids are not told how to stay safe! Did you know each year; thousands of children go to the hospital for emergency room treatment for injuries associated with bunk beds? Most of these injuries are minor and occur when children fall from the top bunk. Children playing and fighting frequently contributes to these mishaps. Teach children that rough play is very unsafe around and on beds and other types of furniture. There are even “thankfully rare” instances of very serious hazards associated with bunk beds that have suffocation or hanging deaths.

To keep your children safe there are some tips you can follow. One very important rule is not to permit kids less than 6 years of age to sleep in the upper bunk. This one rule can help to prevent many accidents. In fact I would enforce the younger ones not to even get up there at all for any reason, less chance of children falling from there.

Just as important as that tip, is to always use two side guardrails on the upper bunk! Keep guardrails securely in place at all times no matter what the age of the child. Children move around during sleep and may roll out of bed into the floor.

Make sure the kids know to use the ladder properly and safely. Also they should be told to use the ladder at all times and not to try to climb the bed to the top. They should be reminded this is used for sleeping and rest, bunk beds are not toys or used for fun! Follow theses simple tips and you should be ok. Bunk Beds for Kids

The term ‘bunk bed’ does not necessarily mean having two beds; it just means that the sleeping area is raised from the ground by a significant height. This height allows designers to create a fantasy world for your kids.

If you are looking to buy a bunk bed, the chances are that it is not for you to sleep on (unless you are a college student, for instance). It will probably be for your child. It is therefore important to weigh up the cost.

Bunk beds are potentially the most dangerous beds because of their height and the cheaper the bunk bed is, perhaps more likely it’ll give you problems, specially a few years down the line of its purchase.

It is unlikely that you will be able to find a strong bunk bed for less than $200, whilst we the bargains out there in which a good quality bed can be purchased for this little money, cannot be denied, however, we believe that some extra money spent that would generate a lot of comfort for your child could be really worthwhile.

But, if you have a small budget, you might find better value for money by looking for a metal bunk bed rather than the one made from wood. As a general rule, metal bunk beds are available at the same price as a wooden bunk bed especially at the end of the market season, which also increases its chances of a better quality.

One very good tip would be to buy a good quality bunk bed or loft beds for children which can be separated into two twin beds. This means that if you have two children who are sharing one single room, they can easily move into their own room, if need be.

These days, there are many beds of this type available, although they are more expensive than traditional beds. Often these are bunk beds! Most bunk beds of this style include a play area underneath the bed, and often an imaginative way of getting down from the top bunk. Most commonly this is a slide, so you will need to make sure that the room the bed is to be placed in is big enough for this slide not to be a hazard, both in terms of your child sliding down it and tripping over it at other times.

Create a cozy cottage look in your child’s room with this beautiful and functional bunk bed. DFW Furniture Direct, the most modern & contemporary furniture store in DFW, Metrolplex features two twin size beds which can be used separately. You can also add on a set of trundle drawers or roll out trundle bed and can create additional sleep and storage space.
